sir – I mourn the disappeara­nce of cornflour, not from my food but from my laundry. Dipping napkins in a few spoonfuls of cornflour dissolved in water makes for delightful­ly crisp, starched table linen. You can even put the liquid into a spray bottle and spray it directly on to your ironing.
