Bugs at the Bell Savage
SIR – Well done Christopher Howse for drawing attention to Colonel Unthank’s excellent Norwich blog (“The fortunes of Parson Woodforde’s Angel”, Sacred Mysteries, November 19).
Mr Howse writes that, when in London, Parson Woodforde preferred to stay at the Bell Savage inn in Ludgate. However, after June 26 1786, when Woodforde “was bit so terribly with Buggs that I got up at 4 o’clock this Morning and took a long walk till breakfast time”, he abandoned the Bell Savage in favour of the Angel inn behind St Clement’s in the Strand.
