The love of jazz
SIR – Can I say how happy I was to see the letter from Bill Coleman (“Ageless Jazz”, November 18)?
I fell in love with jazz when just 14 and listened to all the programmes on the BBC and the American Forces Network. Over the years I replaced my vinyl records with CDS, and play these in my car (a Honda Jazz, by chance).
Philip Larkin said he could live a week without poetry but not a day without jazz. It’s not obsessional, but I find it very hard to have the same enthusiasm or love for other types of music. I have enjoyed so many great musicians – and to them my very grateful thanks.
