Researcher­s at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health have developed lab-grown “mini eyes” which will help researcher­s understand how blindness develops in Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects hearing, vision, and often balance. The organoids, above, were generated from donated patient stem cells. A close-up of rod cells in the retina, right, can also be seen.
