University could rename ‘slave trade’ buildings
Bristol students have been asked if they want to rename university buildings because of their links with the slave trade.
The University of Bristol has begun a consultation over whether to rename seven buildings that bear the names of wealthy patrons associated with the transatlantic slave trade.
Officials at the red-brick university said they initiated the process after feedback from students and staff who felt that building names and the university logo should be changed to “better reflect a modern-day institution in a diverse and forward-thinking city”.
