Tourism in Cornwall

-

SIR – As a family we were frequent visitors to Cornwall in the 1960s, and my husband and I spent our honeymoon there in 1968.

We did not visit because we couldn’t afford a “proper” holiday, but because we loved Cornwall. We have visited other countries, but always felt we had come home every time we crossed the River Tamar.

We eventually retired to Cornwall and made many friends among the local people, whom we found to be very welcoming. I was therefore somewhat annoyed to read Malcolm Bell’s ranting remarks regarding visitors to the county (report, November 21). As the outgoing boss of Visit Cornwall, I don’t feel that he represents the place we have known for more than half a century.

SIR – My congratulations to the outgoing Cornish tourism boss, who at last has the freedom to tell it as it is.

My personal beef is with the second-home owners who insist they want to be part of the local community – on their annual visit.
