Made.com customers face losing their cash

- By Hannah Boland

THOUSANDS of Made.com customers face losing hundreds of pounds on fur‑ niture orders that were never fulfilled, after administrators warned that the bust retailer would only be able to repay less than 2pc of the money it owes.

A new report from administrators PWC revealed that unsecured creditors, including an estimated 12,000 custom‑ ers whose orders had not yet left facto‑ ries, should expect to receive just 1.6pc or less of what they are owed.

A spokesman for PWC said: “We know that this will seem unfair to many customers who placed orders in good faith expecting them to be delivered. We would advise anyone affected to check their debit and credit card pur‑ chase protection agreements.

“We are sharing information with a major merchant services provider, enabling them to process refunds.”

Made.com’s average order value was £246, according to its most recent annual report. A typical customer who placed an order for a table or sofa with the online retailer now faces getting just £5 of that back.

Around 4,500 items had been dis‑ patched but not delivered by the time Made.com went bust. Those are still expected to be delivered by Friday this week. PWC said anyone who had not received an order by the end of the week would need to submit a claim to attempt to get a refund.

The latest administrator documents show Made.com owed customers, sup‑ pliers, warehouse owners and councils £187m at the time of its collapse.
