Apprenticeship drive challenges stereotypes
Primary schoolchildren will be told “Apprenticeships aren’t just for the working class” as part of a new careers programme designed to challenge stereotypes.
It will be rolled out across 2,200 primary schools involving 600,000 pupils in 55 disadvantaged areas of the country, from Cornwall to Cambridgeshire, the Government has announced.
It will aim to give children exposure to a wide range of jobs and challenge outdated stereotypes, such as “Science isn’t for girls”, “University isn’t for the working classes”, “Apprenticeships are not for middle classes”, “Engineering is for boys” and “Caring is a girl’s job”.
