‘Ball is in their court’ Duke may not attend Coronation

- Ewan Somerville

Prince Harry has raised doubts about attending King Charles III’S Coronation, saying the “ball is in their court”.

The Duke of Sussex is grilled about the ceremony and his treatment by the Royal family in a new trailer released on Wednesday morning for ITV’S one-to-one interview.

In the clip, Tom Bradby, the host, asks him about plans for the Coronation of his father, which is due to take place at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

Mr Bradby asks: “If you are invited to the Coronation, will you come?”

Declining to confirm his attendance, Prince Harry replies: “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then.

“But, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.” The latest blow for the Royal family comes from a storm of incendiary claims emerging from his forthcoming memoir Spare.

The Duke said he still believes in the monarchy, but when asked if he believes he will play a part in its future, he said: “I don’t know.”

The Daily Telegraph

revealed last month that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be invited to the Coronation despite their repeated public barbs from the US.

The King’s Coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The monarch will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort, with details of the involvement of other senior

members of the Royal family to be confirmed closer to the time.

The revelation about the Coronation – Prince Harry’s latest body blow to his family – came as part of a publicity spree for the anticipated memoirs.

The Duke has filmed three interviews to promote his book: one with ITV’S Tom Bradby, which will air on Sunday at 9pm; one with CBS News’s Anderson Cooper, which is out on Sunday evening in the US; and a Good Morning America

interview due to be broadcast next Monday with interviewer Michael Strahan. This week, the broadcasters released teasers of the interviews, and a second batch of trailers were dropped on social media yesterday. In a clip released yesterday morning, Bradby challenges Harry on “invading the privacy of your most nearest and dearest without permission”.

Harry replies: “That would be the accusation from the people that don’t understand or don’t want to believe that my family have been briefing the press.”

The book is being released four months after the death of Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and follows years of turmoil for the Royal family amid the Megxit crisis, Philip’s death, accusations of racism in the Sussexes’ Oprah interview and the long-running feud between William and Harry.

The show, called Harry: The Interview, will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITX at 9pm on Jan 8.
