Universities are still delivering almost a third of courses partially online, a survey has found.

Data from 50 universities showed that 28 per cent of courses are being taught with a mixture of online lectures and face-to-face teaching, up from 4.1 per cent in the year before the pandemic.

One student told the BBC, which obtained the survey results, that he feels like he is paying thousands for a “glorified streaming service”.

The Daily Telegraph has revealed that first-year students arriving at Bath University found that as much as a third of their lectures in their first semester would be delivered online.

Freddie Tyzack, 18, a first-year economics student at Bath, said: “It’s not good value for money at all. When it’s online, you’re in your room and you’re on your own, you can just sit in bed and watch and then think, ‘that’s that done – I can go back to sleep’.”

Bath said 94 per cent of teaching in its first semester this year was in-person.

The results of the survey of 50 universities showed that more than 3,500 of the 12,569 courses they offer are being taught in a hybrid format.
