May tops income list for outside work
THERESA MAY has received more money from activities outside the Commons than any other MP in the current Parliament, it emerged yesterday.
The Conservative MP for Maidenhead and former prime minister has earned £2.5 million through speaking engagements since December 2019.
The Westminster Accounts, by Sky News and Tortoise, has collated data about MPS’ second jobs, donations and memberships of all-party parliamentary groups. It shows Mrs May declared 78 separate financial interests during this Parliament, including £408,200 for six speeches given in the US for the Cambridge Speaker series.
Sir Geoffrey Cox, a barrister who has defended work he did in the British Virgin Islands while an MP, was second. Boris Johnson, who has made more than £1million from speeches since he left No10, was third. A spokesman for Mrs May was approached for comment.
