Labour cigarette ban

sir – Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary, says Labour could ban the sale of cigarettes (report, January 9).

While disappointed that yet another politician has no respect for individual freedom, I think Mr Streeting may be about to promise something that he is able to deliver – as opposed to saving the NHS, which seems to be beyond the capacity of any politician. Thomas Hamilton-jones Monmouth
