Biden son in court fight over child’s surname

- By David Millward US CORRESPONDENT

HUNTER BIDEN has asked a judge to prevent the daughter he had with a stripper from taking the family’s name.

The president’s son has gone to court to fight the move by Lunden Roberts, 31, to bestow the Biden name on their four-year-old daughter, Navy.

Ms Roberts, who is raising the girl in Arkansas, filed the change of name petition last month. She said that Navy would benefit because the name Biden was “now synonymous with being well educated, successful, financially acute and politically powerful”.

She argued in the court filing that Mr Biden’s “misconduct or neglect” could be rectified by allowing her to take the family name. But Mr Biden has argued that doing so would deny the child a “peaceful existence”.

He suggested that Navy should be free to decide on her own surname at a time when “the disparagement of the Biden name is not at its height”.

The court battle over the family name is the latest chapter in the legal dispute surrounding the president’s 52-yearold, scandal-prone son and the love child he has never met. In September last year, Mr Biden asked a court to reduce child support payments, saying that he could no longer afford them.

Navy, the fourth of Mr Biden’s five children, was born in late 2017. His paternity was confirmed by a DNA test in 2019. However, Navy has not been recognised by the family and does not have the same secret service protection as the president’s other grandchildren.
