Scientist sues university over RSI ‘pipetting pain’

-

A stem cell scientist is suing King’s College London over claims that pipetting left him suffering repetitive strain injury (RSI) in both hands.

Dr Syed Mian, 36, from Sutton, said he developed RSI following hours of intensive lab work in which he used his thumbs to squeeze the rubber bulbs of pipettes during experiments.

He is suing the college for £50,000 compensation, claiming his employers failed to ensure his place of work was safe for him. King’s College has admitted breach of duty but has said Dr Mian failed to alert them in time that he was struggling. The case is set for a trial at Central London County Court on a date yet to be fixed.
