Smoke on the water

-

SIR – John Bristow (Letters, January 16) tells of smoking in the shower.

I never did that, but in the late 1970s I was at the Bruche Police National Training Centre in Warrington, Cheshire. One of the instructor sergeants, who taught us lifesaving, would walk into the shallow end of the pool puffing on a lit cigarette, and emerge at the other (deep) end still puffing on said cigarette. We never worked out how he did it.

SIR – I was able to smoke in the shower. I just turned my pipe upside down. Still miss the pipe.
