PM urges Khan to ditch ‘unfair’ push to widen car emission tax
SADIQ KHAN’S plans to expand London’s Ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) has been attacked by Rishi Sunak as an “unfair tax” on drivers.
The Mayor of London has decided to forge ahead with expanding Ulez across all of Greater London.
This will see a daily charge of £12.50 imposed on vehicles that do not comply with emissions criteria entering the outer limits of the capital.
Earlier this week, Mr Khan was accused of manipulating a public consultation on Ulez after it emerged thousands of votes had been deliberately excluded by City Hall. The allegations have been denied by the Mayor.
Some 5,200 votes from motoring groups, including Fairfuel UK, were discounted by officials, allowing Mr Khan to claim there was no “overwhelming” dissent by reducing opposition to the plans.
At Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday, Mr Sunak said: “Expanding this zone is not something that communities want.[i will] urge the mayor to properly consider and respond to all these views and stop this unfair tax.”
