Tiktok scammers claim to overturn driving bans

- By Charles Hymas

SOCIAL media platform Tiktok is allowing scammers to rip off motorists by offering to reverse driving bans and provide test pass certificates.

The DVLA has issued an alert over an account on Tiktok where hundreds of motorists have ostensibly paid an employee of the agency to renew their licence or issue a new one.

Billed as @dvlastaff2 and posing as a civil servant, the user carries videos of dozens of named applications ostensibly being approved, including motorists seeking to overturn driving bans.

Other videos carry images from the DVLA website of a named driver with “points removed” or “revoked”, as well as “practical driving test successfully passed”. Despite its apparent illegality – whether it is a scam or a real DVLA official selling approvals – the account has been operating on Tiktok for days.

Alerted to the account by The Daily Telegraph, the DVLA said: “This account is not connected to DVLA. It is a recognised scam that attempts to obtain payment or personal information.”

Tiktok has been contacted comment.
