Crime shows don’t reach 16 series without knowing their audience, and if Murdoch Mysteries is as formulaic as they come, it is none the worse for that, retaining an element of comfort alongside its mysterious and murderous goings-on. Shaking things up in tonight’s opener is Derry Girls’ Siobhán Mcsweeney as the ornery aunt of our hero, William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) – her supposed clairvoyance causes Murdoch’s deputy (Jonny Harris) to abruptly call off his engagement, while two unidentified corpses discovered at a cemetery present a difficult dilemma for the team of detectives.
