Ronald Blythe

-

SIR – I was saddened by Ronald Blythe’s death. As your obituary (January 16) reminded us, he was reference librarian at Colchester public library in the early 1950s.

I recall being taken upstairs to the library by my father on a Saturday morning. Mr Blythe I remember with longish, floppy hair and a cord jacket.

He was, I think, one of a like-minded group including Tony Doncaster, who owned the Castle Bookshop, and Mervyn Levy, an artist who once owed my father a small sum of money and did a portrait of him in payment. My mother was not impressed.

I hope his white cat has found someone else to own.
