Pride pioneer university cuts ties with Stonewall
The university that launched Britain’s first ever Pride march has abandoned Stonewall, the LGBT rights group.
The London School of Economics (LSE), where the Gay Liberation Front held its first meeting to plot the UK’S first Pride protest in July 1972, has quit Stonewall’s Diversity Champions scheme which gives guidance on pronouns and gender-neutral spaces.
A university spokesman said: “LSE has taken the decision to not renew our institutional membership with Stonewall. This does not detract from LSE’S unwavering commitment to LGBTQ+ staff and students.”
LSE Students’ Union said it was “deeply disappointed” at the move.
