‘Climate’ labels could get more of us off red meat
Climate change labels would persuade us to choose more sustainable food, according to a new study.
Sticking a “high climate impact” label on a burger made 23 per cent more people go red-meat-free.
In the study, Johns Hopkins University gave more than 5,000 people a sample fast-food menu and asked them to pick an item for dinner. One group received a menu where options without red meat were labelled “low climate impact”, and included a chicken sandwich, salad and fish. Another group had a menu with red meat burgers labelled “high climate impact.”
