Give the gift of a Christmas tree this January

-

SIR – Your Nature Notes column (January 18) described how recycled Christmas trees act as a dune stabiliser, helping to prevent coastal erosion and flooding.

Our local wildlife park, Auchingarrich near Comrie, Perthshire, asked for recycled trees for its animals after Christmas. In particular, the llamas, alpacas, goats, pigs and sheep love nibbling the trees, which have the benefit of being high in vitamins A and C. They also make ideal scratching posts and, when chipped, serve as bedding for the smaller animals.

To encourage this great way of recycling trees, Auchingarrich has offered one free entry per tree. We are looking forward to taking our young grandson and granddaughter to see the animals.
