Man who died in mobility scooter ‘theft’ is named

- By Max Stephens

A MAN who died after the suspected robbery of his mobility scooter has been named as Neil Shadwick.

The father of two from Stroud, Glos, was found collapsed on the ground in a Tesco car park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Shadwick, who reportedly suffered from Parkinson’s disease and was “vulnerable” according to his neighbours, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but died later that day.

Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman on suspicion of murder and robbery. CCTV footage from an area 10 minutes away from where Mr Shadwick’s body was found shows a disabled man driving his black mobility scooter together with an unidentified woman near the town’s Paganhill area at 2.20am on Sunday. The man can be seen going to a cash machine while the woman leans against a wall. The pair then set off together.

The body of Mr Shadwick, who was in his 60s, was found later that day and a member of the public discovered a scooter abandoned on a road more than a mile away.

Priscilla Mountstephens, a 72-yearold carer who lived next door to Mr Shadwick, said: “Neil had Parkinson’s disease and sometimes couldn’t walk at all so he was often in his wheelchair or mobility scooter. It’s so sad.”

A police spokesman said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being investigated.
