Monday and Friday are the best days to travel, TFL reveals

- By Ewan Somerville

THE number of work-from-home employees travelling to their offices only in mid-week has prompted Transport for London (TFL) to urge those who prefer less hectic journeys to travel on Mondays and Fridays.

A pattern of hybrid working has emerged, since Covid restrictions were scrapped, with large numbers of people going to the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Data from October to December 2022 shows that, overall, around 13 per cent less people use the Tube and TFL rail network on Mondays than on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Monday morning peak had an average of 15 per cent less customers across the network when compared to those days.

Alex Williams of TFL said: “With many commuters now having the flexibility to choose when they go into the office, and people forming new habits to kick off 2023, this latest data shows the benefits of travelling on Mondays or Fridays, or retiming journeys.”
