Tesco vs farmers
sir – As a supplier of Tesco pre-pack potatoes, we have delivered contracts at prices agreed in the autumn of 2021 – before the invasion of Ukraine.
It is therefore insulting for Tesco’s chairman, Sir John Allan, to claim that we are profiteering from the situation (Business, January 24), when any increase in retail price for this product is made by Tesco over the price already contracted.
There is a growing reluctance for farmers to sign new contracts with a company that treats its supply base with such disdain – hence the shortages of products such as eggs, which have a much shorter production time.
