Take up orienteering for a head start in life
SIR – It was encouraging to read of the possible benefits of orienteering in combating the start of dementia (report, January 21).
Indeed, with more runners and walkers of all ages relying on GPS and other navigational aids, it is highly recommended that orienteering is taken up at an early stage in life. Walking or jogging in the countryside while closely comparing the map to the landscape brings great additional pleasure. Good map-reading ability, with a compass in hand, is a most valuable skill to have.
