Aerospace giant Boeing posts sixth consecutive loss

-

Boeing has reported its sixth straight quarterly loss as a surge in costs weighs on the plane maker’s recovery.

The US company said its commercial aeroplane business was hit by “abnormal costs”, while its defence and security division suffered from labour shortages and supply chain troubles.

Boeing posted a $634m(£511m) loss for the final three months of last year, though this was smaller than the $4.1bn loss 12 months earlier.

Revenues rose 35pc to $2bn but came in below analyst forecasts.

However, Boeing, which has been hit by production problems in recent years as well as certification delays following the 737 Max crashes, finished the year with positive free cash flow for the first time since 2018.
