Driver, 96, jailed for killing 84-year-old

-

A 96-year-old man who had been advised not to drive due to his poor sight has been jailed after he mowed down a pensioner using a Zimmer frame to cross the road.

William Beer, from Llanbradach, South Wales, admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of 84-yearold Illtyd Morgan. He was jailed for two years and four months.

Police officers who tested Beer’s sight by asking him to read a vehicle licence plate at the scene of the accident discovered he was unable to do so from 23ft (seven metres) away. Drivers in the UK must be able to read a registration plate from a distance of at least 20 metres.
