Marilyn Manson accused in US of abusing underage fan

- By Josie Ensor in New York

MARILYN MANSON has been accused in a new lawsuit of grooming and sexually abusing an underage fan at the height of his fame in the Nineties.

The accuser, who filed the suit in New York under the pseudonym Jane Doe, is also suing Manson’s former record labels, claiming they supported his “desire to expose children across America to sexual themes”.

Manson, 54, whose real name is Brian Warner, is listed as a defendant alongside his former labels Interscope and Nothing Records.

The artist is considered one of the most controversial figures in heavy metal music, with his songs containing explicit, violent and sexual imagery.

Conservatives sought to ban him from the US airwaves claiming, without evidence, that his messaging influenced the Columbine High School shooting.

In 2021, multiple women, including Warner’s former fiancée, Evan Rachel Wood, accused him of psychologically and sexually abusing them – allegations he denied. In the latest lawsuit, Jane Doe says she first encountered Warner in 1995 after one of his concerts in Dallas, Texas, when she was age 16.

She had waited with a group of people outside his tour bus to meet him and he allegedly invited her “and one of the other younger girls” on to his bus where he asked their age and school grade.

It also alleges his label attempted to include a naked photograph of Warner as a child in the insert for an album. Lawyers dissuaded them from doing so, saying it amounted to child pornography.

Representatives for Interscope and its parent company Universal Music Group did not respond to requests for comment. Warner is yet to respond.
