Banned driver who fled death crash is jailed
A banned BMW driver who ploughed into a young female motorcyclist before leaving her to die by the roadside was yesterday jailed for more than eight years.
Shane Kelk, 28, fled the scene after smashing into Amy Cooper, 20, in Holbeach, Lincs, on Nov 13 last year. He was rushing to get home in fog and crossed on to the wrong side of the road to overtake a vehicle in front.
Ms Cooper died in hospital the next day of multiple injuries.
Kelk, of no fixed address, admitted six charges, including causing her death, failing to stop and driving without insurance. He was jailed for eight years and three months and banned from driving for eight-and-ahalf years at Lincoln Crown Court.
