THE MOST ECO-FRIENDLY STOVES TO INSTALL IN 2023
Worried a wood burner will ruin your ecocredentials? Think again. “When we talk about emissions, we’re talking about older stoves,” says Damion Thorpe, from Sussex Eco Solutions, whose company fits stoves which have been ahead of the 2022 emissions regulations. The key issue is what people burn, he says, as “treated wood will give off toxic black smoke... as will wood containing more than 20 per cent moisture. Wood from a registered wood yard is fine”. The flue can make the final project cost anything from £1,500 to £2,500, if you don’t have a chimney. “The minimum height is 4.5 to 5 metres, otherwise wind can blow particulates back into your house,” says Thorpe.
