Nintendo profits fall with sales of Switch console

-

Nintendo’s profits dropped between April 2022 and December amid slowing sales of its aging Switch console.

The Japanese video game maker’s net profit in the first nine months of the fiscal year to March was 346bn yen (£2.2bn), down 5.8pc from 367bn yen in the same period of the previous year.

However, new games – including Splatoon 3 and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – have performed strongly, the company said yesterday.

Sales of the Switch, launched in 2017, were 21pc lower compared to a year earlier. This was mainly because of a pandemic-related shortage of semiconductors, a critical part of the console, which affected production until late last summer.
