Apple pays £10m fine in Russia over app download store
Apple has paid a £10m fine to Russian authorities over its app download store, which the tech giant continues to run in the country despite no longer selling iphones.
Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service said Apple had paid a 906m-rouble (£10m) fine for breaking monopoly laws. It is the second multimillion-pound fine the company has been forced to pay in Russia this year, and the latest in a string of penalties on US tech firms since they cut back operations in the country.
Apple pulled its iphones and other gadgets from Russia after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The fine stems from a 2020 complaint from Russian security firm Kaspersky after Apple rejected a new version of its app.
