Bowie on Bowie

sir – I’m afraid I have to disappoint Rory Mulvihill (Letters, February 28), who has always pronounced David Bowie to rhyme with cow-ie.

Bowie himself said it was pronounced to rhyme with low-ie.

Mind you, he also said his inspiration for taking the name was the Bowie knife – which, rather confusingly, in its homeland of Texas is pronounced boo-ee.
