Sport that should always be free to view

- Major John Carter (retd) Bream, Gloucestershire

sir – I agree with Robin Nonhebel (Letters, February 27) that Test cricket should be available on television without a subscription.

The other forms of the game can bring in the TV revenue that the Cricket Board needs, but it is a travesty that the purest form of the game cannot be viewed free of charge. It is an important part of our national heritage and must rejoin the other so-called crown jewels, such as Wimbledon and the football World Cup. This would also encourage more young people to take an interest in the game.
