sir – I don’t agree that a gentleman should always tie a Windsor knot (Letters, February 27). This is best left to Russian politician­s. A half Windsor is much to be preferred.

sir – The Windsor knot is passé. I employ an asymmetric­al knot, which, far from looking like old rope, gives the tie a certain distinctio­n, enhanced by a slight dent in the top where it meets the knot.
