Bowie vigilante

sir – Reading about the debate over the proper pronunciation of Bowie,i am reminded of an incident in the mid-1970s when, at a party where Bowie’s music was being played, a man referred to him as “Boo-ie” (Letters, March 1). A robust young woman with a lightning flash painted across her face felled him for his heresy with a single blow to the ear.

No one at the party considered her reaction to be disproportionate.
