Biden has cancerous lesion removed from chest
JOE BIDEN had a cancerous skin lesion successfully removed from his chest last month, his doctor has revealed.
The president’s lesion, detected during a routine medical examination, was a basal cell carcinoma, which “do not tend to spread or metastasise”, Kevin O’connor, his physician, said in a report made public by the White House, adding that “no further treatment is required”.
The lesion was removed during the 80-year-old’s annual medical check-up on Feb 16.
“The site of the biopsy has healed nicely and the president will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing healthcare,” Mr O’connor said in the report released yesterday.
He noted that basal cell carcinoma were generally more innocuous than “more serious skin cancers such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma”.
The check-up was the final one before an expected announcement by Mr Biden to declare his campaign for re-election next year.
At the February appointment, the president completed tests that he began last year at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington.
