Ukrainian girl dies after being found on beach

A 14-year-old Ukrainian girl has died after being found unconscious on a Devon beach.

Devon and Cornwall Police said she was found on Dawlish beach on Saturday, after being reported missing.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained” and investigations are ongoing, police said. The Ukrainian embassy and the Home Office have been informed.

Det Insp Becky Davies said: “Searches took place with support from the police helicopter and coastguard and an unconscious person was found on Dawlish beach. She was subsequently airlifted to hospital where she later sadly died.”
