Drax power station workers agree deal and call off strikes
Workers at the Drax power station in North Yorkshire have ended their strike action after accepting an improved pay offer.
The deal comes after 180 union members walked out of the Selby plant last month, after rejecting an 8pc salary increase. They said that offer amounted to a real-terms pay cut considering inflation is above 10pc.
Further strike action threatening national electricity supplies was planned for March and April.
Drax’s improved package, over a nine-month period with back pay, equates to an increase of 16pc for the lowest paid workers. The power station’s remaining coal-fired operations have been on standby over the winter in case of energy shortages.
