Baby died after doctors missed perforated bowel
A two-month-old baby died after doctors mistook symptoms of a suspected perforated bowel as an intolerance to cow’s milk.
A post mortem found Nailah Ally died in January 2020 from multiple organ failure caused by necrotising enterocolitis (NEC), a serious illness in which the gut becomes inflamed and start to fail.
Nailah’s parents, Laila Tobota, 26, and Emmanuel Ally, instructed lawyers to investigate her care under Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. Lawyers for the family said the trust paid an out-of-court settlement to Nailah’s parents to help access support but did not admit liability.
