Police officer allowed to maintain anonymity

-

A police officer accused of violence and abuse towards women has had his identity protected from the public.

The former Sussex Police officer was allegedly violent and abusive to two women, using coercive and controlling behaviour against them. But he was granted an anonymity order so he couldn’t be named when he appeared before a disciplinary tribunal in Lewes.

Campaigners have condemned the move, claiming the anonymity order “enabled” a continued culture of abuse and misogyny in police service ranks.

Jayne Butler of Rape Crisis said police had failed to learn the lessons of Wayne Couzens and David Carrick.

The case continues.
