Snitching by QR code
Are young thespians and musicians especially attuned to picking up on micro-aggressions? Following on the heels of Lamda, Britain’s oldest drama school, and the Trinity Laban conservatoire, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama is harnessing technology to encourage the reporting of “subtle, indirect, or unintentional discrimination”. The institution is now adorned with posters inviting students to scan a QR code which leads them to a “micro-aggressions portal”. Here, they are able to snitch on the unintended slights of their classmates and teachers. Educational institutions must crack down on obnoxious behaviour but, if reporting a perceived wrong is only a matter of a few clicks on the phone, won’t the trivial inevitably drown out the serious and consequential?
