Murder in the Pacific
BBC Two, 9pm
Just how much of a backwater New Zealand was in 1985 becomes clear tonight as the investigation into the bombing of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior in Auckland gets under way. With the world’s eyes on them, the police put out a public appeal, and are rewarded with reports of four French yachtsmen behaving suspiciously.
Undercover Ambulance: NHS in Chaos – Dispatches Channel 4, 9pm
The title says it all. Over a season of lengthening waiting times and overwhelmed A&E departments, an ambulance crew secretly records the struggle to get through the winter. Adrian Boyle, president of the Royal College of Medicine, says the delays in recent months have caused hundreds of deaths. “It’s much worse this winter than any winter before,” he says. “It’s on a completely different scale.” A devastating – and, to be frank, terrifying – reminder of the pressures the NHS is under, and the resulting impact on both staff and patients.
