Extendable dog leads are a menace to cyclists

-

sir – If dogs are to be kept on extendable leads (Letters, March 9), can they at least be reflective?

I recently lassoed an unseen dog as I crossed its lead while cycling home. The dog and I were fine, but its owner was nearly dragged over.

Being British, my first reaction was to check how she was.

Tony Parrack London SW20 sir – Like Gillian Dudfield (Letters, March 7), I had a negative experience with a dog on an extendable lead.

The small animal rushed at me and bit my leg. The walker said that the dog had only wanted to say hello.

I am still having medical treatment. I am concerned that there may be a repetition of this incident involving a child.

sir – Recent correspondence on extendable leads reminds me that there is no such thing as a badly behaved dog, only irresponsible owners.
