Sound of Morse
SIR – I would add to James Hall’s article (March 11) about the phenomenal success of the Inspector Morse series that a major part in achieving it was played by Barrington Pheloung’s extraordinary score.
Like Beethoven’s Fifth, the opening notes of the Morse theme are immediately recognisable. Pheloung’s clever mix of classical favourites and his own incidental music blend seamlessly to create the brooding atmosphere of the gleaming spires.
