UK facing Tiktok ban amid China spy fears
THE security minister has refused to rule out a UK ban for the Tiktok social media platform.
Tom Tugendhat said he is awaiting a National Cyber Security Centre review before deciding on the “hugely important question” involving the Chinese-owned app.
It comes after Rishi Sunak hinted Britain could follow the US and the EU by banning the app from Government phones and devices. Meanwhile, Mr Tugendhat was asked if he would order a fully-fledged ban on the app, like those ordered by India and former US president Donald Trump.
He told Times Radio on Tuesday: “We’re looking at the various threats to parliamentarians and journalists.”
Tiktok has long argued that it does not share data with China but Chinese intelligence legislation requires firms to assist the Communist Party when requested.
