On the rack

sir – It is a pity that Janet Whitewright and I did not meet when she was in search of a toast rack (Letters, March 8).

I would willingly have given her the toast racks we received as a wedding present. For me, cold toast is a non-starter, so a rack is useless. Butter must be applied to the toast as soon as it is removed from the toaster.
