US activist fund hires ex-chairman of easyjet and BT

The former chairman of BT Group and easyjet has been recruited by activist fund Elliott Advisors.

Sir Mike Rake will join Elliott as a senior adviser, supporting its plans to expand its UK and European investment portfolios in private and public companies.

Investment­s made by Elliott Advisors, the London-based arm of US hedge fund Elliott Investment Management, include stakes in BHP, Glaxosmith­kline, and Premier Inn-ower Whitbread.

“I have always admired Elliott’s track record and its commitment to constructi­ve, engaged ownership in both the private and public markets,” said Sir Mike, who is also the former chairman of KPMG’S UK arm.
