Racks to riches

-

SIR – I have a suggestion for Janet Haines (Letters, March 15), who would willingly give her toast racks away to Janet Whitewright (Letters, March 8)

In Canada my recently deceased mother’s possessions were auctioned by a local auction house that advertised a clearly hallmarked English Georgian silver toast rack as “believed to be silver letter rack”. It sold. Presumably toast is not popular in Canada but they still write letters. Alastair Pringle

SIR – I would cheerfully have given away the toaster that my wife and I received as a wedding present (Letters, March 15), as it would only take half slices of bread. To add insult to injury it was accompanied by a bread knife that could not cut through warm butter. Ted Shorter Tonbridge, Kent
